WMI Asset Logger ALERT
WMI Asset Logger will no longer be developed. I have decided to go the open source route with the product to take it in newer, better directions. The product will be replaced by Open Asset Logger.
The product site was setup on Source Forge, and already houses the full sources for WMI Asset Logger 5.7fp. Right now the tracker isn't properly tracking anything so it appears as though there is no source code. Use the SVN Browse option to browse the source code repository. Or download a good client.
WMI Asset Logger has been downloaded well over 50,000 times, so we know it's out there. Now is not the time to remain silent, if you truly like this product and want to see it turned into a seriously enhanced, free product for the Windows Platform, then use the tools of your choice to speak out and contact us.
In the development of Open Asset Loggers we need:
WMI Asset Logger goes Open Source!
WMI Asset Logger is no more !! The product served well for many years and deserves to be so much more. Having joined up with Bill Cox, I have decided to release the product as a true open source product. WMI Asset Logger officially became Open Asset Logger Thu 6/26/2008 @ 6:40 PM when SourceForge approved us for project space.
We're still waiting for Sourceforge to change the pending status of the project, so it is not yet available to the public. I have started to set the back end up however. But until they update our project's status we're unable to upload any sources and start working on collaborative code.
John's Asset Logger Portable available
I've just made a port of WMI Asset Logger 5.7 for use with USB sticks that have the PortableApps.com menu system installed. If you don't know what PortableApps.com is, you should visit there today to learn all about this great utility now. PortableApps.com has created a framework for running applications off a USB stick with the advantage being that you can take your applications with you, sans the laptop.
Summer alert, be careful with your propane tank purchases...
Apparently propane tanks are being used in the manufacture of Methamphetamines, a very addictive and destructive drug. The tanks are filled with Anhydrous ammonia, a very corrosive chemical that weakens the structure of the tank, as a part of the manufacturing process. These tanks are returned to the store when the drug dealers are done with them, and they are then refilled and re-sold to the public. These tanks are so dangerous that the National Propane Gas Association advises that you do not even attempt to move suspected propane tanks.
The National Propane Association cautions:
JExec beta released,
JExec or John's Executioner is a .NET1.1 Console utility designed to hide sensitive password/username information, where necessary to use them in batch files, such as ISQL, or iSQLw SQL command files. It is also good for creating centralized Logging facilities and command stores as well, each XML file can specify its own logging facility and any commands in that file will all log to that location. The way it works is simple, you place all your commands into an XML file. You give your commands friendly names (labels) or even cryptic alpha-numeric names.
WMI Asset Logger 5.7f to be released Monday 2/25/2008
After too much pressure from all of you (its a good thing, you all have such nice compliments) and a relentless onslaught of great e-mail. I have decided to recode the WMI Asset Logger Database into the works. The new database code is better and faster than it ever was. The product now supports a MS Access Database.
WMI asset Logger 6.0 will introduce support for some enterprise level databases (SQL, ODBC, mySQL, Interbase) SMTP and a slew of other features, and will be released as a .NET 2.0 product.
Stop back Monday and download the new WMI Asset Logger 5.7f Version.
New BETA software just released
Today I am releaseing the executioner. The executioner is a utility designed to reduce the need to have plain text commands exposed to users in batch files. The executioner is an application launcher, script runner, and obfuscator all rolled into one. The program is XML Driven and allows you to enter many commands into an XML file, and then later reference them by a friendly name. Once you get your XML file full of commands you then encrypt the commands with-in the XML and then you use the encrypted files.

You know as a 12 year IT veteran I know what dangers lie out there on the internet. Whereas your security is concerned the risk has mutated well beyond the simplicity of some of the earlier viruses that plagued us where you might loose some data or a drive. Now you have to worry about being redirected, or about child predators, or about even legitmate business being bamboozled mid-data-stream. Its gotten to a degree where one is no longer safe even with a "average computer skillset".

You know, time to time its good to go down to the basement, go through everything and lighten the load. That's just what I did, and found a PC down there I thought had no HD. Naturally when I found it had one I was quite curious so I slaved it in my new system and fired it up. I found this cool track that I created using FL Studio about 3 years ago. For those who know me well.....be warned, its very techno...trans....raveish....
